Gain access to clean water sites as well as areas of the clean water network with the National Water Hygiene Card. Often called the Blue Card.
Energy and Utility Skills Register (EUSR) approve the National Water Hygiene scheme. They promote hygienic habits around the drinking water supply. Hence, this half-day training course gives you recognition by UK water industries and will allow you access to restricted sites.
Course Contents
Candidates will learn a variety of topics. These include the importance of personal hygiene, potential contaminants, as well as incident reporting.
The full course content is:
- Responsibilities of those working with the clean water supply
- The importance of personal hygiene
- Hygiene code awareness
- Potential contaminants
- Pipe storage
- Pet and livestock risks
- Chlorination, disinfection, and cleaning
- “Sump and Pump” systems
- Incident reporting
- Approved products
- Sampling and audits
Assessment and Certification
Candidates will undertake a 25 multiple-choice question paper with a pass mark of 22. In addition, there is a health screening questionnaire. This ensures no candidates are carriers of waterborne diseases, hence allowing you access to sites.
Each successful candidate will receive their card within 28 days of taking the course. Meanwhile, if needed candidates can request a cover note from their tutor allowing them access to sites.
The National Water Hygiene Card is valid for 3 years. After which, the course will require renewal by anyone still working within the industry.
Note: On the training day, all attendees must bring a form of photographic identification.
Who needs National Water Hygiene Card training?
The Blue Card is for those who require access to restricted sites, such as:

Lost your National Water Hygiene Card?
Whilst we can replace cards, there are charges and wait times of up to 28 days for the reissuing of cards by EUSR.
However, should you need instant access to a site, you can use the EUSR Register Search which provides details of your specific EUSR qualifications to date.
