Become a Mental Health First Aider and support mental health and wellbeing in your workplace.
Around 1 in 4 of us experience mental health issues at any one time and as a result around 72 million working days are lost per year (according to the Centre for Mental Health).
This 1-Day course covers the content of the Level 1 course but also expands on the effects of drugs and alcohol, incorporates the First Aid for Mental Health Action Plan and covers ways in which a positive mental health culture can be supported within a workplace.

A range of First Aid for Mental Health related subjects are covered including:

• Identifying mental health conditions
• Providing advice and starting a conversation
• Stress
• Mental health conditions
• Drugs and alcohol
• First Aid for Mental Health action plan
• First Aid for Mental Health in the workplace
Numbers
A maximum of 16 students are allowed on the course and must be a minimum of 14 years of age. A certificated can be offered to all, subject to assessment.
Assessment
Certification
A Level 2 Award in First Aid for Mental Health will be issued to the learner, subject to successful assessment. This qualification is valid for
three years from the date of achievement. It is strongly recommended that the learner attends annual refresher training. The learner will need
to complete the full course again to requalify for a further three years.
Who needs First Aid for Mental Health training?
Every workplace be that a school, office, factory or construction site, is responsible for the welfare of their staff. A mental health first aid course is a great way to ensure you are looking after your staff’s mental wellbeing and therefore maintaining a healthy workforce.
The First Aider for Mental Health course is designed for all colleagues to enable effective peer to peer support, but is also useful for those in management positions such as:
- HR managers
- Employers
- Line Managers
- Supervisors
- Site managers
The Role of a First Aider for Mental Health
The role of the first aider is not to provide therapy!
A first aider for mental health is there as a point of contact for employees experiencing emotional distress.
Therefore, the responsibilities include:
- Spotting early signs of mental ill health
- Starting supportive conversations and listening non judgmentally
- Assessing the risk of suicide or self harm
- Leading by Example – Looking after yourself and own good mental health
- Following your workplace mental health policies
- Ensuring confidentiality
- Keeping appropriate boundaries between yourself and colleagues who engage support
