Is fire safety training a legal requirement?
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 outlines an employer’s legal fire safety duties.
Section 21 states adequate safety training must be provided when an employee joins your organisation. Similarly, when an employee is exposed to new or increased risk, training must also be provided.
How often must training be refreshed?
Legally, training must be refreshed whenever you feel it is appropriate.
Annually reviewing your staff training and consulting with your employees will help you decide when training needs to be renewed.
What is the role of a fire warden?
A fire warden has many crucial roles in your workplace. To name a few:
- Assisting the creation of fire safety plans and procedures (i.e. fire drills, escape plans)
- Consistently assessing your fire risk
- Assisting in evacuations
- Educating others on the importance of fire safety
